Precise Love Language

My boyfriend and I took turns with the flu this week. He caught one in the wild, stewed it for a few days, then passed it on to me. How sweet?

My house looks nothing like this, we have bunches of soiled tissue papers everywhere. But the idea is there.

I was very serious about keeping a safe distance, and didn’t let him anywhere near my face the whole time, but I still got it. Apparently, it isn’t very possible to sleep in the same bedroom without catching the flu from a sick person, unless the air purifier is kept between the two of you, so why bother?

Through this episode, I learned that we each “speak” very specific act-of-service love languages.

Mine:

Water
I bring water to his desk or fill his cup whenever I walk by.

Cut fruits
I think this is just the hyper-Chinese feminine trait lol. This week, we had pears in the house, which are really good for sore throat.

Tidying up
Removing the breakfast bowl from his work desk, doing the dishes, and generally straightening up the house.

His:

Laundry
He seems to make it a point to run the laundry whenever I’m sick or extra busy, so I wouldn’t be bothered by it.

Lunch/dinner service
He’d cook or buy food for me, and usually it comes with some advice on what he thinks is suitable food to eat.

Bedtime reminders
He’d remind me to rest and take breaks.

I really appreciate him doing the laundry and meal service! But I’m not sure if he notices the things I do for him lol.

Anyway, if you have a dating profile, it’ll be fun to add your very precise love language there. Who knows, it might find you a good match! Humour and banter etc. are fun and all, but if you’re looking for a harmonious relationship, this kind of small thing really matters more.

Unsolicited dating advice hahaha…

I came across something disturbing online today. It’s getting common for middle-class people in US to be sleeping in their car now cause they don’t make enough money to make rent. Considering how burnt out I’ve been in recent years, it’s really quite a blessing that I’ve managed to keep a roof over my head comfortably, somehow.

I have a lot to be thankful for.
